Kicking Off the 2016 PMC Season!

“Keep an open heart and an open mind in everything you do. People, best friends, significant others, even strangers, have so much to offer each other in life. Everybody has his or her own path, and no one path is greater or better than any other. Embrace those around you and everything about them. Sometimes even the most distant strangers will have the greatest impact on you.” ⏤ Duncan Sewall
These words, written by Duncan Sewall a week ago as he left Argentina after six months of study there, so eloquently capture Elizabeth’s spirit and the way she lived her life that we could think of no better message with which to kick off the 2016 Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) biking season.
This August, Team Elizabeth will make its fourth ride in the PMC, an annual bike ride that supports the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. As with every year’s ride, 100% of the funds raised by the team will go directly to the Elizabeth Alling Sewall Endowment at Dana-Farber. Currently at an awe-inspiring $377,000, the endowment is a tangible legacy of Elizabeth’s life and is a testament to the help of the many who cared so deeply about her and who continue to honor her memory through their support.
Scott Sewall, who will serve as the team’s captain going forward, has grown the roster of riders for this year to an impressive fourteen members, giving us a solid mix of youth and age, energy and wisdom. The riders, listed below, will tackle either the challenging 84-mile PMC route from Wellesley to Bourne on Saturday, August 6, or a 50-mile route on Sunday, August 7.
Our team goal this year is to raise an additional $45,000 for the endowment. If you’d like to donate, you can do so by check or online with a credit card. Checks should be made out to Pan Mass Challenge with the Elizabeth Alling Sewall Endowment on the memo line and sent to me at: 57 Wheelwright Farm, Cohasset, MA 02025. If you prefer to donate by credit card, you can do so at the Team PMC page.
Please note you can donate to the team as a whole or you select a specific rider from our team list by clicking his or her name below to go to his or her rider page. We are grateful for gifts of any size. Thank you!
We, as a family and a broad circle of friends, continue to feel Elizabeth’s presence in our lives, a presence full of light, hope, laughter, love, curiosity and abiding affection for all “who came to her door.”
Scott and Duncan join me in wishing you a happy and fun-filled summer and send our deep appreciation for your support of our efforts to help fund research that will lead to the development of new therapies targeted at lobular breast cancer. Go Team Elizabeth!
Warmest regards,
Gordon Sewall
