Honoring the Life and Legacy of Elizabeth Alling Sewall

Thoughts from Duncan Sewall

My dearest friends and family,

Two years ago today, my mother Elizabeth Sewall died from breast cancer. It has been an unbelievable journey since that day, filled with great days and filled with bad days. But here we are. A father in the late stages of his professional career, an older brother just beginning his professional career, and me still working hard in college. People often ask me “how do you do it? How do you stay so strong?” Well the answer is simple: you all. You are the reason I carry on every day. You all make it possible for me to get up in the morning. I thank you all for what you have done for me and my family, whether you have given us your time, or even just a simple text message to let us know we are in your thoughts. I miss you like hell, Mom, but I know you are with me every single moment, smiling down on us.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain.
